Virtual Gallery Live:

Yactac is proud to present our exhibition called “Anti-Social”, which features 26 different artists from diverse backgrounds all commenting on what it is to make art in our current affairs. Because of social distancing protocols we must abide by during these pandemic times, we will be hosting a virtual opening reception on Saturday, May 30th, 2020 from 7-9pm PST. The opening can be joined by visiting the link above. The artists participating, are Hamideh Abol, Ben Bogart, Whitney Brennan, Monica Chapur, Sidi Chen, Joni Cheung, Emilie Crewe, Adam Dodd, Hasnaa Fatehi, KC Hall, Jenny Hawkinson, Lee Hutzulak, Jack Jeffrey, Judy Jheung, Marie-Pascale Lafreniere, Aaron Moran, Peggy Ngan & Bill Jeffries, Clare Palmer, Sora Park, Shannon Pawliw, Ong Jing Ren, Daphne Roussel, Liz Toohey-Wiese, John Wang & Lam Wong.  The artists are as diverse as the media they work in ranging from painting, audio, video, sculpture, ink, photography, and text.

In the begrudging times of Covid-19, many of us are forced to rangle with the “new normal”. However, artists are also working hard to find a sense of meaning and for many, that takes the form of drafting, tinkering, and playing. The 9 virtual rooms in this virtual gallery comrise of representations, unique interpretations, and arguable implications of what it is like to experience the world today. “Anti-Social” is an apt name for the social-distancing, and in some cases, lockdown situations sanctioned by governments in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus that started in December 2019. The social, political, economical impacts of this disease is still to be determined, but may we share the lens of these 26 artists and perhaps shed some light into how to deal.

“we are facing a human crisis unlike any we have experienced” and our “social fabric and cohesion is under stress.”- Amina J. Mohammed (UN Deputy-Secretary General)

Please join us during our opening reception for artist talks, performances, discussions and refreshments.  This event will be hosted live by Yactac members: Janice Cheung, Justine Cheung, Karen Ngan, and Peggy Ngan.

Thank you for your support.
