Sub Rosa – Jessica Jang

Yactac is pleased to present new work by Jessica Jang.

Jang’s new paintings and sculptures explore themes of the figure and girl-identified culture. In Sub Rosa, the gallery is reimagined as a site of a party. The youthful figures question notions of community membership, social ritual, and agency. Some works feature the figure independently while other images display collective participation.

Jang is interested in the liminal space of early adolescent development- particularly the process of negotiating identity through performativity, disguise, and a simultaneous desire to be seen and not seen.

Jessica Jang is an artist and educator who works and lives in Vancouver, BC. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University, attended Chelsea College of Art, and has a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. Imagination, intuition, and material engagement occupies a significant extent of her methodology.
